Some buy it in the shop around the corner, others drink it directly from the tap: water. But not only access to water is a matter of course for us, but also the best drinking quality. But this is not the case everywhere. From this perspective, the players of FC Sankt Pauli founded the club “Viva con Agua de Sankt Pauli e.V.” in 2005. The association is committed to humane access to clean drinking water and basic sanitation worldwide.

There are now over 10,000 supporters in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the Netherlands for the goals that the association represents. Over time, they have joined forces to form crews in the cities and actively support Viva con Agua according to the motto:

“All for water – water for all!”

Of course, there is also such a crew here in Osnabrück and has been for almost 10 years. Although the faces change from time to time, the motivation and fun of working together is still there. Where does that come from? The secret recipe of Viva con Agua Osnabrück is that no one is put under pressure. Everyone gets involved according to their strength and time capacities. It’s also nice that everyone can contribute their own ideas and their implementation is twice as much fun.

What actions are started by VcA?

Campaigns, such as the installation of large deposit collection bins at festivals or concerts, the sale of VcA water or educational campaigns, serve to draw attention to the topics of WATER, SANITATION and HYGIENE ( WASH for short) and help to collect donations for the water projects of the VcA partner Welthungerhilfe.

The VcA Crew in Osnabrück has also already carried out or planned many other activities this year. These include a project travel lecture from Nepal, Run for WASH, a social media campaign for World Toilet Day or collecting cups together at festivals.

Specifically, you will soon find the crew with flag and barrel at the following events:

  • 25.05. University Carnival (Westerberg Campus)
  • 11.06. Fairytale Festival (castle courtyard)
  • 16./17.07. Fairkatert Festival (Halle Gartlage)
  • 26./27.08. Hütte rockt Festival (Georgsmarienhütte)

So, just keep an eye out for the white flag! 😉

What are VcA’s projects?

In addition to the many campaigns, VcA also helps directly on site through special projects. For example, projects are currently underway in Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia, India and Nepal. The aim of these projects is to improve the hygiene situation and access to clean drinking water in cooperation with the people living in the respective project country and thereby increase their state of health. Since 2006, 500,000 people have already been helped in this way.

Project trips take place regularly, during which selected supporters of VcA, employees and artists get an overview of the conditions and progress in the project countries. You can see a great insight into such a very warm and friendly journey here:

How can you participate?

If you have the desire and time to get involved in these important topics as well, then you are cordially invited to stop by the VcA Crew Osnabrück. The best thing to do is to come to a crew meeting (every first week of the month) or to the regulars’ table (every third week of the month). You can find more details about the date, place and time on the Facebook page. For preliminary information or other questions, you can also simply write to the members of VcA Osnabrück via Facebook or by e-mail to osnabrueck@vivaconagua.org . To put it from the VcA perspective:

“We are happy about every new drop!”
