Student Initiatives
A university thrives on the diverse activities of its students. Through student councils and numerous student initiatives, there are a wide variety of opportunities to get involved and gain experience alongside your studies.

What are initiatives?
With its numerous student initiatives, the university offers several opportunities to get actively involved in addition to lectures and seminars. But what exactly is an initiative? An initiative is defined as a formalized association of students. Student initiatives can have a wide variety of focuses and goals. Some are dedicated to social or artistic causes, while others are subject-specific or career-focused.
Our Initiatives

Wo ist eigentlich Lingen?
“Wo ist eigentlich Lingen” (WieL) is a student editorial team based on the Lingen campus. It includes our student association of the same name, which was founded in 2006 in collaboration with Prof. Achim Baum. We provide all the answers about our campus and the city on the Ems, so that no one ever has to wonder again where Lingen actually is. Anyone who wants to learn more or would like to support us is welcome to stop by our editorial meetings.

European events in Spain, the Netherlands, and Germany.
IRTe has been building electric race cars since 2011 and has already achieved numerous successes in the past. Since 2017, the racing team has been working toward participating in the new autonomous racing events and plans to build a prototype for the first time for the 2021 season.
Campus ohne Grenzen
Campus without borders is a student initiative consisting of (world-)open and committed students who enjoy working with international students and refugees.
We achieve language support, facilitation of integration at the university through tutorials, workshops and undertakings, and support general inclusion in society.
Our guiding principles include exchange, friendship and participation.
AG Rassismus
The working group is an open initiative by students and staff at the university and was founded in late 2020 by Abigail Joseph-Magwood and Christiane Leiste. We meet once a month to address racism in our society, including within the university, for example through public lectures, a study group, and information networks.
The main goal of the working group is to identify, highlight, oppose, and combat racism at our university—in other words, to resist racism.
The working group is open to anyone interested. We welcome anyone who would like to join us. We also welcome anyone who would like to address racism within our university through other formats and look forward to exchanging ideas.

mitdenkbar
The “mitdenkbar” collective is organized outside of regular coursework under the motto “by students, for students.” External speakers are invited to this student-run event to help us look beyond the confines of our university and engage in cross-semester conversations over soda or beer in a relaxed atmosphere. In addition to current topics in landscape architecture, the focus is primarily on interdisciplinary exchange and insights into other fields of research.

Studikino Lingen
The StudiKino in Lingen aims to offer students a break from their studies through movie screenings, even during the COVID-19 pandemic. Since the university cinema is currently closed due to the pandemic, but the CentralKino in Lingen can still screen the occasional movie—at least during “lockdown-light” periods and similar measures—with ample social distancing and mask-wearing, the StudiKino Lingen was launched here in collaboration with the CentralKino.

NEO - Nachhaltiges Engagement Osnabrück

LMB - Landmaschinenbau an der Hochschule Osnabrück e.V.
“Landmaschinenbau an der Hochschule Osnabrück e.V.”—or simply LMB for short—is a student association founded in 2014. The association sees itself as a network that connects students, alumni, and university staff with an interest in agricultural technology and now has over 200 members. In addition, the association organizes lectures on agricultural technology and field trips to various companies in the industry every semester. As a rule, all events are free of charge.
At the heart of student club life is the monthly get-together at the Grüner Jäger, which usually takes place on the second Wednesday of the month at 7:00 p.m. (except during lecture-free periods).
Haster Herbst
Haster Herbst is an initiative currently driven mainly by former and current members of Campus Haste’s governing bodies. In the past, Haster Herbst was something of a “little brother” to the Terrassenfest. It was first organized and held in the spring of 1989 on the grounds of the Haste Faculty by dedicated students under the name “Vorlesungsfrühling.”
Since 2018, “Haster Herbst” has been held annually on the AuL Faculty campus as the only alternative event of its kind. Every year, we offer you a variety of activities directly related to the degree programs based in Haste. Dedicated volunteers show you, for example, how to propagate plants using cuttings or how to make seed bombs. The university’s own sensory analysis lab is also often used for beer tastings, giving you the chance to experience something like this for yourself. The park grounds are used for outdoor events such as a LaserTag tournament, a scavenger hunt, and much more.
Of course, the scope of the events and the number of activities we can offer always depend on how many of you support the initiative. So don’t hesitate—if you’d like to support us, just send an email to aul@hochschulfreun.de or haste@hochschulfreun.de

LA©H Initiative
We are a young university initiative
made up of faculty and students who have made it our mission to bring more happiness into the world. For us, that means more lightheartedness, mindfulness, and (clown) humor! Our focus is on the students and their everyday college life. But as we know, happiness is meant to be shared and cannot, therefore, be limited to just a few individuals.
Our first workshops already kicked things off.
In addition to humor and a lighthearted approach, various tools helped participants develop a resource- and solution-oriented mindset. All of this helped strengthen personal resilience and, as a result, enabled participants to better cope with challenges in their academic, professional, and personal lives. Our guiding principle is:
You are your own source of happiness!
If you’d like to learn more about the LA©H initiative, get involved, or stay informed about upcoming events, please contact us at: heuteschongelacht@hs-osnabrueck.de
