For the re-establishment of a municipal housing company in Osnabrück
Rising rents, too few affordable apartments – this problem also exists in Osnabrück.Many people are affected: students, the unemployed, people with low incomes, single parents, large families, refugees, pensioners, and many others.
Municipal housing association…
15 years ago, the city sold its own housing company at a ridiculous price. A large part of the 3700 municipal apartments at the time are now owned. This means that the city no longer has an instrument to
- offer affordable apartments on their own,
- to exert more influence on rents and urban development, and
- To provide housing for people who are currently discriminated against on the “free housing market” for various reasons.
… with a referendum!
The SPD, Greens and Left Party had therefore decided in the city council before the local elections to found their own municipal housing company again. But a majority in the current city council overturned this decision in November 2017.
After that, we do not want to and cannot wait for other majorities in the Council. With a referendum, the people of Osnabrück can even push through a municipal housing association!
Sign and become active yourself!
The “Osnabrück Alliance for Affordable Housing” has been in existence since May 2018, which is supported by 40 organizations and is now conducting a citizens’ petition as a first step towards the referendum. To do this, 10,000 signatures must be collected by the end of February 2019. We call on you to sign the citizens’ petition.
Anyone who would like to support the initiative beyond this can register with the alliance at info@bezahlbarer-wohnraum-osnabrueck.de report. We will then contact you and discuss with you how you can participate.
Who can sign?
Only those entitled to vote in local elections are allowed to sign (i.e. they must be 16 years old, have had their primary residence since have been living in the city of Osnabrück for at least three months and have German citizenship or citizenship of another EU member state). Invalid entries will be deleted by the administration.
