In the lecture hall, in the cafeteria, on the street: according to German Environmental Aid, more than 320,000 to-go cups are disposed of nationwide every hour, almost three billion a year. The energy needed to produce this amount of cups could supply a small town for a year. Environmentalists have long been calling for a tax on disposable cups.
The fight against the disposable cup
Since 2016, Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences has been offering specially designed thermo mugs together with the Osnabrück Student Union. This project not only offers you the advantage of being able to counteract the ever-growing mountain of waste, but it also gives you financial advantages. A thermo mug gives you a discount of 30 cents on every hot drink. The good piece can be bought in the canteens of the university campuses or in the university shop for 5€, which also includes a voucher for a coffee or tea.
