“Take your chance!” – “This is your chance!” – “Seize the chance!” The name of our university career fair can be used for many (un)funny puns. On 28 and 29 October It’s that time of the year again: Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences has invited and around 120 regional and national companies will come to the Westerberg campus on the two days and present themselves at our university’s own CHANCE fair.
What are you offered there?
At this fair, you can make contacts with potential employers and find out about topics such as applications, entry and promotion opportunities, internships or theses. Or you can just stroll through the fair between lectures, because the companies also like to lure you with small promotions. Last year, for example, there was fresh popcorn whose smell you just couldn’t resist. Along the way, there will be a ballpoint pen or two to dust off and exciting
Job interview at the trade fair – help?!
Are you about to write your thesis, are you looking for a working student job or are you even finishing your studies soon? Then you should prepare specifically for your visit to the trade fair. Some companies even offer you the unique opportunity to conduct a one-on-one interview with applicants at the trade fair. The registration period for this runs until 18 October. You can find out which companies are participating and how to register on the university’s homepage. Be quick, we’ve heard there are only a few limited places left! There are also
The right preparation
But even if you want to take the whole thing a little easier at first, you have the opportunity to simply get in touch with the HR managers of the companies. To help you show your best side, here are a few little tips:
- Spruce up your CV and take it with you to the fair. You never know!
- It’s best to think about what exactly you want to say and how you can make yourself interesting for the company. After all, the first impression counts.
- Find out beforehand in the trade fair booklet that the university sends you about the companies and vacancies. The
job exchange set up especially for the fair can help you with this. This allows you to approach the stalls in a more targeted way. - The dress code is also important, which should of course be appropriate. So get out of the student look and into your business dress!
- At the end of an interview, thank them and let the contact person know if and when you will send an application.
- You can also use the fair for networking. After the interview, write an e-mail to your contact person thanking them for the interview, even if you don’t want to apply at first. A request on Xing is always a good option. Who knows what this contact will be good for at some point! 😉
So it doesn’t matter whether you want to get specific information or introduce yourself, use the excuse of not having to go to a lecture or just want to dust off popcorn and pens: A visit to the fair is worth it!
