All students who make their way home at the weekend know the problem. The eyes were much too big during the weekly shopping and at the end of the week the fridge is still full. Unfortunately, half of the food will have expired by next week. What now – throw it away? No, because that’s waste!

This is exactly the motto of the Foodsavers, who belong to the nationwide association “Foodsharing”. They give private households and local businesses the opportunity to give away surplus food and thus make it accessible to other people. The central goal is to counteract general waste in a non-commercial way.

How exactly does it work?

The foodsavers currently pick up food 12 times a week from 8-10 different companies that would normally be disposed of because it is no longer suitable for sale. They then take these foods to one of the two fair dividers. Both are accessible 24/7 and may also be filled by private persons. The decisive factor here is that you would still eat the food yourself and that it has not yet been opened (more information on site). The food is not only available to those in need, but to everyone.

“Everyone should and may help themselves with a good feeling, otherwise any goods would have been thrown away!”

What are Fair Dividers?

The Fair dividers are refrigerators that the Foodsavers have set up at the following locations:

Alter Güterbahnhof: Keep right on the site, turn left in front of the entrance in the ‘front garden’ directly on the wall of the Petersburg house (Hamburger Straße 22b)

Haste district: At the Christ the King rectory on the right side of the corner of the house in a wooden shelter (Bramstraße 105)

You think the project is great and would like to help?
