The university elections are scheduled for 6.12.16. This means that you can elect your student representatives for the year 2017 online.

Who is wanted?

We are looking for 2 representatives in the Senate and 25 representatives in the Student Parliament throughout the university. Here you can also elect representatives from other faculties and locations. Each faculty or institute then elects its own 2 representatives in the faculty council (or 3 in the institute council) and the representatives in the student council. Only candidates from your own faculty can be elected. 9 students can be elected to the student council of the AuL and 12 students to the IuI student council, the WiSo has 15 places, the IfM 3. This is related to the number of students at the faculties or at the institute. All those who are elected will be in office from the summer semester 2017 and will represent you and your fellow students for one year. So help decide who that will be!

Why should I vote?

Fortunately, we students can have a say and participate in decisions on many topics that affect studies or the university. The university elections give you the opportunity to decide which students will represent you and your fellow students during the next election period. So it’s about nothing less than the favorite topics of all students! This includes, for example: the design of the next university party, the design of the semester ticket or the establishment of the next foosball tournament.

How does the election work?

So that you can relax and put your crosses on election day, you will get a short introduction to the university election system here. The election consists of the individual election and the list election. In the individual election , you do exactly what the name says. You choose the applicants individually. You always vote for as many candidates as there are places in the committees (several votes). In the list election , on the other hand, you only have one vote. The point here is, for example, that the StuPa does not consist exclusively of students of the IfM faculty in the end, but that each faculty is represented in an appropriate proportion. This means that you always vote by list election if the committee to be elected affects all faculties and then by individual election if the election only refers to your faculty anyway.

Online elections 2016!

This year, the university has come up with something completely new – well, the idea is not that new, but at least here it has not yet been used. The magic word is online voting.

Oskar was not quite so enthusiastic about it at first. How is this supposed to work and what about anonymity and data protection?

The university cooperates with the company Polyas . Since 1996 we have been the market leader in the field of online voting and of course certified according to the international Common Criteria standards . How exactly the elections are carried out securely and anonymously is probably only understood by an I&I member and the AStA’s university policy officer … for everyone else: But they looked at it very closely ! And found to be safe.

For us, this means: Register in the OSCA portal from 6.12 and elect our student representatives from the comfort of your own home. With this, the WiSO will certainly also achieve a remarkable election rate …. or? 😉
