What do your student representatives actually do all the time?
We train ourselves! This time on the topic of “sexual harassment in the workplace”. At work? Yes, because this also includes the university. An everyday problem – but still a taboo topic for many. Silence does not help those affected, but plays into the hands of perpetrators. The university has also recognized this problem and works closely with the Osnabrück Equal Opportunities Office. A complaints office is currently being set up, but as long as it is not ready, no one knows exactly what to do with their problems and experiences.
From now on, it’s best to come to us! We, the General Students’ Committee, the Student Council WiSo, the Student Council I&I, the Student Council MKT and the Student Council AuL have used our time to be trained by the Equal Opportunities Office. We have gained insights into the legal situation, prevention and dealing with sexual harassment and sexual violence in order to be the perfect contact for you. Did you know, for example, that the university has a duty of care towards you and that you therefore have a right to demand action against the perpetrator?
We are at your side, advise you and work closely with the counselling centres. So if you are ever in the situation of having been sexually harassed and need help, then stop by one of our offices – of course everything will be treated strictly confidentially:)
