Why does the exam phase have to fall exactly during the European Championships? Let’s get to the bottom of the matter. I, as part of Generation Y, want to expose the injustices of our system! I feel obliged to do so. I pounce on this conspiracy theory, even though I don’t really have time for it.

Nevertheless, I manage extraordinarily successfully to distract myself from effective learning with such digressions. Desk has long been sparkling clean. Every disorder is eliminated in the most careful Tetris manner. DVD’s and books are in alternating order alphabetically, and then again chronologically arranged and everything else that I absolutely had to do before, I unintentionally did in best time.

Are you serious!?

For some time now, I have had the uneasy feeling that I have been the victim of a conspiracy between the university and the European football association UEFA. What gives me this suspicion? It’s been like this every summer, but this year I want to puke up about it. I know that this learning is an investment in my future. But dude, the European Championships only run for less than a month. And that every few years. And then the exam phase falls exactly in this one month. Are you serious? And at the end of the exam phase, the championship is over. Are you serious?! And then? You fall into the summer slump! Don’t tell me it’s not intentional!

Case study Germany – Italy

On Saturday, our team will play against Italy at 9 p.m. A game against the curse, I read. The German national football team has never won against Italy at a major tournament. “The national team has never won a competitive match against the Squadra Azzurra, and the overall record of four-time world champions Germany against four-time world champions Italy is also quite sobering. The DFB team has won just seven of 32 games; this is offset by fifteen defeats.” Let’s pretend that this comes from my knowledge of the regulars’ table and I would have given this statistic by the way without having to use a search engine. Anyway – it seems to be a suspenseful game, but what did I have to do again? Oh yes, I have to study for my exams.

I’m not even a football fanatic. But I would like to try my hand at being one, especially at this time! When I talk to my fellow students about European Championship results between lectures, I try to make forecasts that are as expert-grade as possible. After all, my placement in the internal betting round also depends on this. The top ranks promise fame and honor, the sincerest respect you can get from your buddies. Plus, it’s fun! Fuck it! I’ll watch the game on Saturday evening. I’ll choose one of these locations for public viewing

and switch off from the stress of studying! I’m just going to time everything much better this time, so I’ve acquired a large part of the learning material before the game starts. I firmly convince myself of that, even if these times have often been my undoing in the past. Somehow I always managed to reconcile it all. I ask myself how I did it. I remember how the lack of time appealed to my sense of environmental responsibility. All of a sudden, I wanted to break out of my disenchantment with politics, become active and fight climate change. Finding someone to blame for the fact that the best weather of the season is served up during the exam phase and I either had to dig through books in stuffy rooms, learn formulas by heart and internalize them as if it were the text for an important theater role, instead of watching the accounts of fashion fitness people on the beach (alternatively at the swimming lake, as a student I don’t always have the necessary change for the beach).

Devastating conclusion

In case of doubt, for the accused. Unfortunately, I have no evidence of this conspiracy, even if I think I recognize a pattern! I have no choice. I have to come to terms with it and make the best of it! I will still watch the Germany game with my colleagues and pour out my pseudo-knowledge about football. The same applies to the upcoming game of the Iceland Vikings, who have earned my sympathy! I will get carried away and bring out real emotions. Hopefully our team wins and we make it to the semi-finals! Of course, I named Germany as the European champion in the betting round! Come around!
