Like the butterfly effect, the topic of mentoring now runs through the studies of Ann-Katrin and me. We were mentees ourselves 3 years ago and were simply grateful not to be alone in the information jungle at the beginning of our studies and to have help at hand. We were then able to show our gratitude by becoming mentors ourselves.
Also a great experience – we not only have a special connection to subsequent semesters, but were also able to make contacts with other courses of study and those responsible at the university. When the mentoring program could no longer be continued, it was immediately clear to us that we had to keep it alive. We are now organizing the program for the second time. Our goal is that the campus tour is not simply done and at the end the mentors dust off a certificate. Joint activities, e.g. barbecues, pub crawls and Christmas parties, are intended to help strengthen the relationships created and create a feeling of togetherness, possibly even beyond one semester!
