17.4 million euros. This sum is to be saved this year in the Lower Saxony budget alone in the department of science and culture. In addition, the department’s budget is to be cut by a further 24 million euros annually. This also and especially affects us students. Because savings in the field of science and culture mean savings at the universities and colleges in Lower Saxony and these savings will reach us students first. Compared to the rest of Germany, Lower Saxony’s universities are already poorly financed by the state.

Therefore, on 18.12.2019, the LandesAStenKonferenz (LAK), together with the fzs as well as some student senators and the University Teachers’ Association, sent an open letter to the state government around Prime Minister Weil, in which we make our position clear. The letter can be found here:
