Blood donations are essential for the survival of many! The donated blood is needed, for example, for therapies for seriously ill patients or in the event of serious accidents. However, there is no artificial alternative for this and therefore donations cannot be dispensed with. If too few blood donations are received in a period of just over a week, patient care is no longer fully guaranteed. As a result, optimal care for injured and sick people is not provided. In addition, the short shelf life of the donations is another problem.
Blood donation and Corona, is that possible?
Yes, it works, even pretty well! Due to the high hygiene standards, a blood donation even carries a lower risk of infection than a visit to your favorite pub.
And who is allowed to donate?
Anyone who feels fit and healthy and really is. Anyone who shows the first symptoms (scratchy throat, chills, cough, shortness of breath) will be deferred for four weeks and is therefore not allowed to donate. Anyone with a body temperature above 38°C, who has had contact with people who have contracted Covid-19 or who has been ill themselves (in this case, you have to wait at least four weeks after healing before donating) will also be deferred.
