Dear students,

At the 2nd meeting of the Lower Saxony State Students’ Conference (LAK) of the legislative period 21/22 of 09.07.2021, it was decided to exclude the Technical University of Braunschweig from the LAK. The exclusion took place because two students were elected to the General Students’ Committee (AStA) of the TU Braunschweig who belong to a fraternity. Although the students would not have had any political influence within the AStA, this was declared incompatible with the preamble of the LAK by other members of the LAK.

The statement of the TU Braunschweig student body can be read in the press release.

We as AStA of the Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences see our work and our actions as party-politically neutral and took the debate about the exclusion of the AStA of the TU Braunschweig as ideologically oriented and regret their exclusion very much.

As a consequence, we as the General Students’ Committee of Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences are also withdrawing from the Lower Saxony State Students’ Conference (LAK). Nevertheless, we want to continue to represent the interests of our students statewide and are still interested in a good cooperation with other Lower Saxony ASten.

Should the LAK focus on overarching student interests again in the future and have constructive discussions, we will discuss a return to the LAK again.
